![]() ![]() They still make money and still will make money so long as they maintain the game (which honestly doesn't cost much unless they are being forced to port it over to something like a newer version of directX or smth.) They are making bank on having an old, but still good product that at this point has become a historical part of gaming history. While yes, game purcahses do slow down over time they do not stop. Saying that they should get a real job is like telling an actor (A sucessfull one at that) to go get a real job that has a stable income. Video game development especially for a large-ish company like these guys is a profession that does pay for itself. Personal choice doesn't matter in the PC world, and I should just submit to Microsoft's tyranny. Linux aside, game purchases aren't exactly stable, and drop off fast.īut again, I'm the bumbling fool who dares to use a non-Windows platform. Then they should go get real jobs instead of relying on unstable paychecks from video games. Originally posted by Rattenmann:The money is what is paying their rents and feeds their families tho. All i wanted to get is some understanding on why it may not be right up there on their list. That being said, that is just me ranting about work that is not fun.Īs far as this game goes, they have yet to break a promisse. Better software vs easier marketing with porting. But i guess there is a tradeoff happening here. Would more people pay for that better software in return? No idea again. I know for certain i could improve software in the time i need to port it. Would that be bad? Well, not sure personally. If Linux market share drops even further, even marketing will think about ignoring it. I would not bet on that being the case forever tho. (not saying ALL Linux users, but you all know how vocal some are). It saves on investments in more marketing to offset the extremist Linux community. It is a simple marketing thing right now. One was considered worth it.Īnd why do we keep doing linux ports? Because marketing tells us we have to. My company did 7 ports and only 4 actually negated the costs for them. The money is what is paying their rents and feeds their families tho.Īnd truth be told: Quite a lot of Linux ports cost more then they pay off.
